Controller Compliance and Improvements Manager - 15 month contract
Job Introduction
We are looking to recruit a controller competency & improvements manager to work with both internal functions and external stakeholders to achieve a high standard of service delivery and ensure a safe operation by managing both compliance and improvement activities for controller grades across the Southeastern network.
The role is accountable for ensuring that all controllers are compliant in all role related standards, processes, and procedures set out by the business and that the overarching standards and training for controllers is updated in line with internal learning & industry best practice.
The Controller Compliance and Improvements Manager is accountable for all items in relation to training, assessment, verification, and standardisation and responsible for building a strong, motivated working culture within the control environment(s).
Role Responsibility
As the Controller Compliance and Improvements Manager you will have responsibility for creating, monitoring and delivering a strategy of improvements within the Train services directorate for controllers based in the Kent Integrated Control Centre and the Local Control Points. Reporting to the Head of Service Delivery, the post holder will have the following responsibilities:
- Develop and promote strategic objectives which align with our company vision and goals.
- Accountable for controller role specifications;
- Accountability for the creation, delivery and management of controller competencies;
- Provide training and development opportunities for direct reports
- Responsible for the line management of the Competency Specialist.
- Ensure that the ongoing continuity management and business resilience of the control is being managed
- Engage with stakeholders across the business on new ventures to ensure suitable integration of new projects or systems
- Engage with external stake holders across the rail industry to share best practice and promote open learning
- Responsible for successful improvement programmes ensuring a holistic view of the business implementation is considered
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Industry Operating Practice and standards ensuring our standards are relevant and meet all legal requirements
- Carry out verifications and audits of the competency management system
- Carry out investigations as required by the business
- Create business cases and source funds where necessary to facilitate improvements within the control room operation
- Carry out assessments as required on Southeastern and, if required, Network Rail personnel
- Accountable for training regimes, training specification and course materials for all controller roles.
- Responsibility for the creation and maintenance of the business operational procedures
- Accountable for the development, maintenance and deliver of Controller operating procedures.
- Attendance and representative of the KICC and LTSC at meetings.
- Carry out all other reasonable actions as directed by the Head of Service Delivery
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience in a railway operations environment ideally gained within either a control room or training setting
- Experience as an Assessor and Verifier qualified (or working towards)
- Proficient with Microsoft packages
- Previous project management experience advantageous
- Previous line management experience desirable
- Ability to manage large volume workloads simultaneously
- Highly organised
- A strategic thinker with an ability to consider all aspects of railway operations
