Engineering Competence Specialist (Train Movements)

Job Introduction

Accountable to the Engineering Competence Manager for ensuring that the competence assessment of engineering staff are conducted in accordance with Railway Group Standards and Southeastern Competence Management Systems.

Responsible for reporting any lapses in competence to the relevant Line Manager. Undertake action required under the individual Development Support System (IDSS).

Undertake / assist in operational incident investigations as directed by the Engineering Competence Manager

Undertake and manage coaching/mentoring and training of engineering train movements staff as and when required.

Responsible for the assessment, mentoring & development of engineering assessors ensuring that their knowledge is to a higher standard than those they assess, also undertake mentoring assessments of all maintenance assessors ensuring standards are maintained across all locations

Undertake Internal Quality Assurance on Engineering Assessors

Update and maintain all operating instructions applicable to their own areas of responsibility

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 3 year’s experience in a train movements role
  • Holder of a current licence to drive trains with no record of incident for 3 years
  • Must have excellent knowledge of engineering train movements procedures and standards.
  • Must have attended or must attend accident investigation training course and undertake the online RSSB investigation training.
  • Good personal organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate and influence
  • Excellent computing skills and ability to use Microsoft Office computer applications
  • Empathetic, approachable and supportive of colleagues.
  • Resilient and self-motivated.
